A comprehensive eye exam is much more than checking your prescription — it is a full assessment of the health of your eyes and an early-warning system for many systemic conditions. At Eye Central, our exams combine clinical thoroughness with modern imaging so we can catch problems early, manage them effectively, and keep your vision sharp through every stage of life.
What's Included in a Comprehensive Exam
Detailed Health History
We review your visual symptoms, medical conditions, medications, family history, and lifestyle to tailor your exam.
Vision & Refraction
Precise measurement of your prescription for distance, intermediate, and near vision — including digital screen needs.
Eye Pressure & Glaucoma Screening
Non-contact tonometry and optic nerve assessment to screen for glaucoma at the earliest stage.
Retinal Imaging
High-resolution photography and OCT scans to document the health of the retina, macula, and optic nerve over time.
Disease Management
Ongoing care for glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, corneal disease, and other conditions.
Post-Op & Surgical Consults
Co-management for cataract surgery, LASIK, PRK, and other refractive procedures.
Emergency Eye Care
Same-day appointments for sudden vision changes, eye injuries, infections, and floaters or flashes.
What to Expect on Your Visit
Check-in & Pre-Test
A quick intake (10 min) and pre-test imaging including auto-refraction, retinal photos, and visual fields if indicated.
Doctor Examination
Your optometrist reviews your symptoms, refines your prescription, and examines the front and back of each eye in detail (30–40 min).
Findings & Plan
We walk you through what we found, share your imaging on screen, and build a clear plan — whether that's a new prescription, a treatment, or simply peace of mind.
Eyewear & Follow-up
Optional time with our optical team for frames and lenses, and scheduling for any follow-up or specialty visits.
Coverage & Affordability
Children under 19 receive a free annual eye exam under OHIP. We also offer subsidized exams for diabetic patients, seniors, and those covered by ministry programs. Most private and employer insurance plans are accepted with direct billing where supported.
